Die heutige museale Ausstattung zeigt u. a.
The staircase is part of the so-called commandant's building, which was originally the seat of the garrison headquarters of the Marienberg Fortress. The structure was built in 1709/12 under Prince-Bishop Johann Philipp von Greiffenclau to plans by the Würzburg architect and engineer-captain Andreas Müller, the teacher of Balthasar Neumann.
The exhibits in the staircase today show, among other things, portraits of the Prince-Bishop as the builder-owner, of his court chamber director Gallus Jacob von Hohlach, who had initiated the construction of the arsenal and of the commandant's building, as well as portraits of senior Würzburg military officers, some of whom were stationed here.
