Heilige Familie aus dem Hause Canigiani

Dieses von dem Florentiner Kaufmann Domenico Canigiani bestellte Andachtsbild gehörte Ende des 16. Jahrhunderts zu den Meisterwerken der Medici-Sammlung, die in der sogenannten Tribuna der Uffizien präsentiert wurden. 1697 kam es in die Düsseldorfer Residenz, als ein Geschenk Cosimos III. Großherzog von Toskana an seinen Schwiegersohn, Kurfürst Johann Wilhelm von Pfalz-Neuburg. Raffael hielt sich nach seinen Lehrjahren bei Perugino von 1504 bis 1508 in Florenz auf, wo ihn, wie diese Komposition erkennen lässt, jüngste Gemälde von Leonardo und Michelangelo inspirierten.

This devotional painting, commissioned by the Florentine merchant Domenico Canigiani, was one of the masterpieces in the Medici Collection that were presented in the so-called Tribuna in the Uffizi at the end of the sixteenth century. It entered the Düsseldorf Residence in 1697 as a present from Cosimo III, the Grand Duke of Tuscany, to his son-in-law, Johann Wilhelm II, the Elector Palatine. After his years as a pupil of Perugino, Raphael was active in Florence between 1504 and 1508, where, as can be seen in this composition, he was inspired by new paintings by Leonardo and Michelangelo.
