The Death of the Virgin
Saraceni places the death of the Virgin Mary in a sacred setting, thus referring to her role as the embodiment of the church. The mourners' different reactions are composed as a study of emotions. This work, painted on copper, is a variation of the large altarpiece that the painter executed for Santa Maria della Scala.
