Als Künstler von unvergleichlicher Fantasie und Ausdruckskraft war Tura Hofmaler der Herzöge von Ferrara. Dieses Rondell gehört zu einer Dreierserie, die das frühe Leben Christi zeigt. Die Serie stammt möglicherweise von der Basis (Predella) eines Altarbildes und wurde mit Turas Meisterwerk, dem Roverella-Altarbild, in Verbindung gebracht, dessen Mitteltafel sich in der National Gallery in London befindet. Typisch für den Künstler sind die nervöse, kalligraphische Linie und die mystisch anmutende Landschaft.

An artist of incomparable fantasy and expressive power, Tura was court painter to the dukes of Ferrara. This roundel belongs to a series of three showing the early life of Christ. The series may come from the base (predella) of an altarpiece and has been associated with Tura's masterpiece, the Roverella Altarpiece, the central panel of which is in the National Gallery, London. The nervous, calligraphic line and mystical-seeming landscape are typical of the artist.
