Gleichnis vom Splitter und vom Balken

Das Bild veranschaulicht eine Ermahnung Jesu: „Und warum siehst du den Splitter im Auge deines Bruders, aber achtest nicht auf den Balken in deinem eigenen Auge?“ Fetti wurde in Rom ausgebildet und entwickelte einen Stil voller Elan und Gewandtheit. 1614 zog er nach Mantua, um für Ferdinando Gonzaga zu arbeiten. Dieses Bild ist eine von dreizehn Illustrationen von Gleichnissen aus dem Evangelium, die um 1619 für Ferdinando Gonzagas Studiolo (ein kleines privates Arbeitszimmer, oft gefüllt mit Kunstwerken und Büchern) gemalt wurden.

The picture illustrates an admonition by Jesus: "And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?" Trained in Rome, Fetti evolved a style of great verve and fluency. In 1614 he moved to Mantua to work for Ferdinando Gonzaga. This picture is one of thirteen illustrations of Gospel parables painted in about 1619 for Ferdinando Gonzaga's studiolo (a small private study, often filled with works of art as well as books).
