Herbstlandschaft mit Truthühnern

Millet schrieb am 18. Februar 1873 an seinen Gönner Frédéric Hartmann, dass er dieses Bild für den Händler Durand-Ruel fast fertiggestellt habe: „Es ist ein Hügel mit einem einzelnen Baum, der fast keine Blätter mehr hat und den ich versucht habe, ziemlich weit weg zu platzieren.“ Zurück im Bild. Die Figuren sind eine von hinten gesehene Frau und ein paar Truthähne. Ich habe auch versucht, das Dorf im Hintergrund auf einer unteren Ebene anzudeuten. „Der Schauplatz ist in der Nähe von Barbizon, wo Millet von 1849 bis zu seinem Tod lebte. In der Ferne ist der Turm des benachbarten Weilers Chailly-en-Bière zu erkennen.

Millet wrote to his patron Frédéric Hartmann on February 18, 1873 that he had nearly completed this picture for the dealer Durand-Ruel: "It is a hillock, with a single tree almost bare of leaves, and which I have tried to place rather far back in the picture. The figures are a woman seen from behind and a few turkeys. I have also tried to indicate the village in the background on a lower plane."The setting is near Barbizon, where Millet lived from 1849 until his death. The tower of the neighboring hamlet of Chailly-en-Bière is visible in the distance.
