Den Hintergrund dieses kleinen Gemäldes basierte Corot auf einer Freilichtstudie mit identischen Abmessungen, View of Genzano (2009.400.29). Anstelle des leeren Vordergrunds entwickelte er die Komposition jedoch weiter, indem er Figuren, eine Straße, Felsen und Bäume hinzufügte. Es ist wahrscheinlich, dass Corot diese Landschaft im Atelier seines Landsmanns Achille Benouville (1815–1891) als Geschenk für Alexis-René Le Go (1798–1883), Sekretär der Französischen Akademie in Rom, fertigstellte.

Corot based the background of this small painting on a plein-air study of identical dimensions, View of Genzano (2009.400.29). In place of its empty foreground, however, he developed the composition by adding figures, a road, rocks, and trees. It is likely that Corot completed this landscape in the studio of his compatriot Achille Benouville (1815-1891), as a gift for Alexis-René Le Go (1798-1883), secretary of the French Academy in Rome.
