The anonymous creator of this figure was Nuremberg's most important 14th c. sculptor. He is regarded as the leading artist of the masons' lodge that came to Nuremberg from the Central Rhineland and which was active in the Saint Sebald Church. His major work, Saint Catherine, is found in Saint Sebald. A wealth of sculptural detail, a gentle sway of the body and rhythmic drapery folds reflect his exceptional skill. Typical are the delicate facial features, compact outline and the widening of the figure towards the base.
