Picassos erste Collage entstand im Mai 1912 als Reaktion auf Experimente Georges Braques. Dieses Werk von 1913 ist aus Tapetenstücken, Zeitungsausschnitten sowie farbigen Papieren komponiert und mit Kohle, Bleistift und Farbe bearbeitet. Im Wechsel von Schrift, Mustern und Umrisslinien zeigt sich ein Spiel mit künstlerischen Mitteln, die sowohl Gegenstände abbilden, als auch Fläche betonen und Raum vorstellbar machen können. Schriftlich bezeichnet wird eine Weinflasche. Mit Bleistift eingezeichnet ist der Tisch. Die Tapete mit ihrem Ornament umfängt das Stilleben. Die Buchstaben,,LE" lassen sich zum Namen der Zeitung,,Le Figaro" ergänzen. In der Tate Gallery, London, befindet sich ein Werk, in dem Picasso den rechten Teil der Titelseite vom 26. Mai 1883 verarbeitet hat.
Picasso made his first collage in May 1912 after having seen the experiments of his fellow painter Georges Braque. This work from 1913 is comprised of pieces of wallpaper, newspaper clippings, colored pieces of paper, as well as charcoal, pencil, and paint. Alternating between writing, patterns, and contours, Picasso presents a play with artistic elements that both represent objects as well as emphasize the surface and make the spatial situation comprehensible. A bottle of wine is signified through writing, while the table is drawn with a pencil. The wallpaper provides the background of the still life. On the left, we can read the letters "LE," indicating the name of the newspaper "Le Figaro." A similar work by Picasso, which is owned by the Tate Gallery in London, displays the right upper corner of the same front page from May 26, 1883.
