A soldier is led towards a naked, sleeping woman by Cupid, god of love, who holds his arrow suggestively. Restrained by his older companion, the man seems to resist temptation. The subject of the picture on the monumental vault above them is unidentified, but appears to represent a figure holding a shield, showing mercy to a supplicating woman. The glass beaker in front could be a symbol of purity.
