Portrait of a Man

This is perhaps the earliest example of a life-size, full-length portrait painted in Italy. The sitter, usually identified as Gerolamo II Avogadro, wears an enamel badge of Saint Christopher on his hat. In the 18th century, this painting hung with the nearby Moroni portrait in the Avogadro villa outside Brescia. The two men may be father and son.
