The Vision of Saint Jerome
In the wilderness a vision of an angel appears to Saint Jerome. It inspires his study of the Bible, which he translated into Latin. Jerome is accompanied by the lion that he befriended, and a cardinal's hat rests on his desk. This is one of Domenichino's earliest recorded paintings, made shortly after the artist's arrival in Rome in 1602.
