The Côte des Boeufs at L'Hermitage

The site is a hillside close to the artist's home near Pontoise, a Paris suburb. The scene is rendered with small touches of broken colour. Cézanne was staying with Pissarro in 1877 and painted the same motif. The two men had met as students in Paris. Pissarro's ambitious canvas was shown in the third Impressionist exhibition of 1877 alongside works by Cézanne.
