Le Bec du Hoc, Grandcamp

Seurat visited Grandcamp in Normandy in the summer of 1885. The promontory of Le Bec du Hoc was a spectacular local geological feature later destroyed by bombs during the Second World War. In 1888 Seurat reworked the surface of the painting and added the painter border, modulating its colours in relation to the painting itself.
