A Vase of Wild Flowers

A bunch of flowers in a vase is displayed on a table. Befriended by Paul Cézanne and collected by Oscar Wilde, Monticelli was greatly admired by Vincent Van Gogh, who refers to him as "a strong man [...] of an extremely refined taste as a colourist". His late style, with its thick impasto and its rough surface texture, deeply influenced Van Gogh's art.
