La Pointe de la Hève, Sainte-Adresse

This study shows the beach at Sainte-Adresse close to Monet's home town of Le Havre. A rowing boat near the shore directs the viewer towards more ships on the horizon. The skilful rendering of the luminous late afternoon sky and the delicate colouring of the shingle beach suggest that this scene was painted in front of the motif.
