Afternoon in the Tuileries Gardens

Menzel was the most important German artist of the late 19th century. His vision of the popular Paris gardens, though inspired by his second visit to the city, was painted in Berlin. Menzel was famous for his attention to detail, a skill evident here in his depiction of the lively crowd.
