Susannah and the Elders
The beautiful Susannah was lusted after by two elders as she bathed in her garden. When the men threatened to accuse her of adultery if she did not sleep with them, she refused and was tried, but her innocence was ultimately proven. A compositionally complex picture, Carracci shows the virtuous Susannah bathed in light and the corrupt elders shrouded in shadow.
