Philip IV of Spain

The King is shown at the age of about 50 and this is probably the last portrait that Velázquez made of Philip IV, whom he had served since 1623. Philip is known to have felt uncomfortable at seeing himself ageing in Velázquez's late portraits. He wears the badge of the Order of the Golden Fleece on a chain.
