The Transfiguration

Christ appears in a radiant state to the Apostles Peter, James and John to reveal to them his divine nature. He stands between Moses and the prophet Elijah. This panel is from the predella on the back of Duccio's double-sided Maestà and was originally adjacent to the scene of Christ curing a man born blind on the left. Consequently the blind man appears to look up in gratitude at Christ.
