Il Tramonto (The Sunset)
The subject is unknown. The figure having his leg bandaged may be Saint Roch, while Saint Anthony peers out of a cave on the right. Large parts of the painting were devised by a 20th-century restorer, who transformed tree roots into a dragon. The monsters in the lake and Saint George are also his invention. Regardless, Giorgione's lyrical rendering of a landscape at dusk, remains.
