The young man shown here at prayer has not been firmly identified, but his jewelled pendant and the gilded and marble columns indicate his wealth. Before him is an open Book of Hours or other devotional book. The object of his devotions, probably the Virgin and Child, would have been shown in the lost right-hand panel.
