Während der Herrschaft von König Ludwig XIV. (1643-1715) entwickelte sich die Kunst der Rahmenherstellung in Frankreich weiter. Die leicht abgenutzte Vergoldung dieses Rahmens zeigt, wie der auf das Holz aufgetragene Gesso-Grund mit Nachschneidewerkzeugen verziert wurde, bevor das Blattgold hinzugefügt wurde. Zur Belebung der Oberfläche wurde eine unendliche Vielfalt an Kreuzschraffurmustern geschaffen.
During the reign of King Louis XIV (1643-1715), the art of frame making continued to develop in France. The slightly worn gilding on this frame shows how the gesso ground applied to the wood was ornamented with recutting tools before the gold leaf was added. An infinite variety of cross-hatched patterns was created to animate the surface.
Sous le règne de Louis XIV (1643 à 1715), l'art du cadre poursuit son développement en France. La dorure légèrement usée de ce cadre permet d'observer la manière dont les apprêts posés sur le bois sont travaillés avec des fers à reparer, avant la pose de la feuille d'or. Une infinie variété de quadrillages permet ainsi de faire vibrer les fonds.
