Ab dem 16. Jahrhundert blühte die Rahmenherstellung in den verschiedenen Städten der italienischen Halbinsel auf. Jedes künstlerische Zentrum hatte seinen eigenen Stil. Dekoratives vergoldetes Rollwerk auf schwarzem Grund ist charakteristisch für die Werkstätten im Florenz des 16. Jahrhunderts.
