The Tribute Money

Christ was asked by the Pharisees if they should pay tax to the Romans. He asked whose name appeared on the coin, and they replied Caesar's. Christ responded: 'Render therefore unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's' (Matthew 22: 17-22). This painting was sent to Philip II of Spain in 1568.
