Abraham and Isaac

Abraham and Isaac make their way to the place of sacrifice carrying wood for the altar fire and a lighted torch (Genesis 22: 1-19). The landscape background is loosely based on Olivier's studies of the countryside around Salzburg, which he had visited in 1815 and 1817. The distant mountain peak can be identified as the Watzmann, south of the city.
