Portrait of Jacobus Blauw

Jacobus Blauw (1756-1829) was Dutch. He helped to establish the new Batavian Republic in the Netherlands in 1795. Following the French invasion of the Netherlands, he was sent to Paris to negotiate peace. David dated the painting '4', referring to the fourth year of the French Revolutionary calendar.
