Golden sunlight illuminates this serene landscape, dappling tree-bark, rimming bramble branches, and warming the ground beneath the hooves of a traveller's horse. On the left, a hunter crouches, poised to shoot at ducks on the water. Cuyp's landscape scenery was inspired by his travels along the Rhine River in the eastern Netherlands.
