Portrait of the Archduke Albert
Archduke Albert of Austria (1559-1621) was the youngest son of Emperor Maximilian II. In 1596 Philip II, King of Spain, nominated him governor of the Netherlands. Albert married Philip II's daughter Isabella in 1599, whose portrait hangs nearby. Both portraits were probably painted in Rubens's studio about 1615, when an engraving was made after them, or more likely, after lost originals.
