A View of Het Steen in the Early Morning

In this scene of rural idyll, Rubens's own house can be seen to the left. Cool sunlight streams in from the right, illuminating the manor's pale green fields and fertile woodlands. The artist dedicated his later life to painting landscapes for his own satisfaction, enjoying a peaceful pastoral existence as 'Lord of Steen'.
