A Man seated reading at a Table in a Lofty Room

Once attributed to Rembrandt, this painting is now considered to be the work of an early follower. Precise details and strong contrasts of light and shadow imitate Rembrandt's style from his early years, when he worked in his native Leiden (1625-31). Depictions of scholars in their study were especially popular in the university town of Leiden.
