Flowers in a White Stone Vase

Unlike his contemporaries, Dirck de Bray depicts a limited selection of flowers that all bloom in the same season. Guelder roses, columbine and peonies are convincingly arranged in a white vase in an unusually 'modern' composition, which seems to prefigure a type of still life commonly associated with the 18th or even 19th century.
