A View of Delft, with a Musical Instrument Seller's Stall

The focus of the townscape is the New Church of Delft. The exaggerated perspective and strongly foreshortened viola da gamba in the foreground have led to the suggestion that the painting was originally part of a perspective box. Fabritius is known to have been interested in optics and perspective.
