A crowd has begun to gather around one of the fishing boats moored halfway up the coastline. Bright sunlight illuminates the faces turned towards the figure of Christ addressing them with outstretched arms. This small-scale painting on copper anticipates another, much larger version of the same motif on canvas, now in the Alte Pinakothek, Munich.
