Saint Michael

Saint Michael is one of the seven archangels. He overcame Lucifer, here symbolically depicted as a decapitated serpent. This is one of four saints painted for an altarpiece made for the Augustinian church in Borgo San Sepolcro. The step of the Virgin's throne and brocade from her mantle are visible in the lower right corner.
