The Virgin and Child with Two Angels

This picture was made at about the time Verrocchio first took up painting in addition to his work as a sculptor. The figures, as well as the palm tree growing behind the wall, recall details of his sculptures of the later 1460s. The painting is related to an early Botticelli composition (now in Naples).
