The Entombment (or Christ being carried to his Tomb)
This unfinished altarpiece shows Christ being carried to this tomb. He has been lifted from the laps of Mary Magdalen, seated at left, and the Virgin, planned but not painted at right. His lifeless body is emphatically presented to us. This would have provided the worshipper a visual focus when the rite of Eucharist was performed at the altar.
