The Dormition of the Virgin

The apostles are gathered around the bed of the dying Virgin, to which they were summoned; the painting appears mistakenly to show 13 apostles, rather than 12. Saint Peter holds an incense burner over the Virgin. In the foreground is a smaller donor figure in Franciscan dress. The Latin of his scroll declares: 'Lead me to heaven after you, Mary'.
