Portrait of a Woman of the Hofer Family
The woman holds a forget-me-not, a symbol of remembrance. On her headdress is a fly, either a symbol of mortality or a reminder of the artist's skills of illusion. The woman's family is identified by the inscription (top left) which reads 'Born a Hofer' but her precise identity is unknown. The artist worked in Southern Germany.
