Diese Tafel, ursprünglich die Vorderseite einer Hochzeitstruhe (Cassone), zeigt den griechischen Mythos von der Entführung Europas durch den Gott Zeus in Form eines Stiers und ihrer anschließenden Flucht auf die Insel Kreta. Hochzeitstruhen wurden in Prozessionen vom Haus der Braut zum Haus der Frischvermählten getragen.
This panel, originally the front of a marriage chest (cassone), shows the Greek myth of the abduction of Europa by the god Zeus in the form of a bull and their subsequent flight to the island of Crete. Marriage chests were carried in processions from the bride's house to that of the newly-weds.
Ce panneau, qui constituait la face d'un coffre de mariage, représente le mythe grec de l'enlèvement d'Europe par le dieu Zeus, transformé en taureau, et leur fuite vers l'île de Crète. Les coffres de mariage étaient portés en cortège de la maison de l'épouse jusqu'à celle des nouveaux mariés.
