Auf dieser Tafel aus einer Predella (unterer Teil eines Altarbildes) sind die Jungfrau Maria und der heilige Josef zu sehen, wie sie Simeon im Tempel ihren Sohn Jesus präsentieren. Der architektonische Hintergrund des Bildes erinnert an das Florenz des frühen 15. Jahrhunderts und die Experimente des Architekten Filippo Brunelleschi. Das Werk wurde vom Bankier Palla Strozzi (1372-1462) für seine Kapelle in der Kirche Santa Trinita in Florenz in Auftrag gegeben.
This panel from a predella (lower part of an altarpiece) features the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph presenting their son Jesus to Simeon in the Temple. The architectural background of the image recalls early 15th-century Florence and the experiments of the architect Filippo Brunelleschi. The work was commissioned by the banker Palla Strozzi (1372-1462) for his chapel in the church of Santa Trinita in Florence.
