Seaport with the Embarkation of the Queen of Sheba

The Old Testament tells how the Queen of Sheba, laden with gifts, set out to visit King Solomon (1 Kings 10: 1-2). Claude has imagined a sea voyage and shows the Queen descending the steps on the right. The painting is the pendant to Landscape with the Marriage of Isaac and Rebecca, which hangs nearby.
