The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple

Mary and Joseph bring Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem to dedicate him to God. The priest who receives him is Simeon, to whom it had been revealed that he would not die before seeing the Messiah (Luke 2: 22-39). For many years this picture was kept in Guercino's bedroom, returned to the artist as part settlement of a debt.
