Alders

A woman wearing a red and white hat sits next to a body of water, perhaps the river near Daubigny's home in Auvers sur-Oise. The artist built up the picture with many layers of paint, often applied before lower layers were dry. He also used a comb to add texture in the sky and water, creating distinctive sets of parallel lines.
