A Horse frightened by Lightning

Géricault often depicted horses, especially around 1813 when he was reported as painting them at Versailles. He was particularly interested in capturing their psychological states, as here, where the animal stands rigid with fear as lightning flashes around it. Although mostly small in scale, these studies were probably intended as independent works.
