The Duke of Wellington

Arthur Wellesley, the first Duke of Wellington, is depicted after his liberation of Spain from French occupation at the battle of Salamanca in 1812. Originally, he wore only the stars of three orders and the Peninsular Medallion around his neck. The rosette and badge of the Order of the Golden Fleece and the Peninsular Gold Cross (painted over the medallion) were added in 1812 and 1814 respectively.
