These elegant musicians are about to play a trio sonata by Michel de La Barre (about 1674-1743/44), a flautist and composer who has been identified as the standing man turning the pages of the music. We do not know the identities of the two other flautists or the bass viol player, but the figure on the left might be a self portrait.
