The Adoration of the Golden Calf
Moses, descending Mount Sinai on the left, sees the Israelites, led by his brother Aaron (in white). They are worshipping a golden idol (which in this painting is shaped like a bull rather than a calf). In his righteous anger Moses breaks the God-given tablets of the Ten Commandments (Exodus 32).
