William Feilding, 1st Earl of Denbigh
William Feilding (about 1582-1643) was created James I's Master of the Great Wardrobe and Earl of Denbigh in 1622. He visited Persia and India in 1631-3, and shortly after his return commissioned this unusual portrait. Van Dyck shows Feilding in Oriental dress, out hunting with an Indian servant who points out a parrot in the palm tree.
