Saint Paul preaching at Ephesus

Saint Paul is shown preaching during his mission to Ephesus (in modern Turkey). Other disciples give thanks, dispense alms and bless the new converts to Christianity, some of whom are burning books on the 'curious arts.' This painting is a sketch for a much larger work commissioned by the Paris goldsmiths for the cathedral of Notre-Dame.
